Alan Thompson is an Operating Partner in the Emerging Technologies team at Temasek Global Investments, alongside his role as CEO and Executive Director at Xora Innovation. Alan has extensive leadership experience spanning emerging technologies, private equity, enterprise development, and telecommunications, media, and technology (TMT). During his tenure at Temasek, he has served as Joint Head of Emerging Technologies and Joint Head of Private Equity Fund Investments, as well as Senior Managing Director in the Enterprise Development Group and Managing Director of Telecommunications and Media. As Managing Director, Latin America, he spent three years in São Paulo and helped establish Temasek’s offices in Brazil and Mexico.
Before joining Temasek in 2004, Alan was a Partner at Stern Stewart & Co., where he led value-based management engagements across Southeast Asia, Australia, and South Africa. Earlier in his career, he spent ten years in South Africa’s high-technology sector in computer design, software engineering, systems engineering and executive management. His experience also includes private equity within a major banking group.
Alan holds an MBA, a Graduate Diploma in Engineering and a B.Sc. in Engineering (Electrical) from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is a board member of GenZero and chairman of iCompaz. Previous board appointments include Avanda Investment Management and Azalea Asset Management.
